You quickly brush the hanging vines away from your face, trying to keep pace with the black cat whom you followed through the portal that brought you to the dream realm in the first place. Its pace has been brisk, and whenever it gets too far it stops and turns to you, waiting, its eyes large and pale in the darkness like the twin moons. The moons... has all of this taken place within a single night? Does day ever truly come to this place?
Before you can get too lost in your own thoughts, you skid down a ravine after the small shadow you've been following and find yourself in a vast meadow of the shining indigo flowers, and.
Portals. The cat was leading you to these portals. Without a moment of hesitation you run to the nearest one, stopping just before it to gaze into its swirling depths. Where will this one lead? The land before you is vastly different than this one, but just as unfamiliar. You find yourself peering around the edges of this portal to the others, checking them for anything you might recognize. They all seem to lead to worlds as alien as this, and yet. What floods your body and leaves your fintertips tingling is not the despair of no way to return home, but the thrill of a new adventure. Which one will you take? What will this new world lead to?
As if you knew it to be there, you turn around to see the cat sitting at the edge of the field, its eyes wide with what you feel is expectation. Suddenly your heart stings with the realization that the beginning of a new adventure is to say goodbye to this one. You find yourself about to tell the cat you're sorry, but stop, feeling it somehow already knows what you want to say.
With that, you turn back to the portals, giving each one a discerning look. Wherever they lead, and for all your tribulations here, you hope you somehow find your way back to this place again...
links
wip as many things are here! links are added and sometimes removed from time to time. as with some other things on my site, this is a personal collection of sites i like, and i don't generally accept requests to add or remove sites. all sites linked here may not share my views, just as i may not share theirs. linking a site here just says i like this site's content and find it to be good by my standards, even if i may not always agree 100% on everything.
that said, i do not accept hate or bigotry as something to merely "agree to disagree" on and never knowingly link to hateful or bigoted sites. all sites hosting hate will be removed as soon as i'm made aware, and i do accept being informed that i'm unknowingly linking to a hateful site. if you find a site like that on here, some additional info is at the bottom of this page.
links are given filters for things i'm aware of about the linked site; for instance, if i didn't see any mention of someone being LBGTQ+ i won't add their website's link to that category.
link to me
finally finished the nice animated button i've always wanted to have! please save this to your own site if you link to me; no hotlinking!
the links
eventually (meaning whenever i can muster the energy to trawl my full list of link buttons...) i'll be rewriting this collection a bit to make use of the picture
element to detect the animation settings of visitors and conditionally swap out animated .gifs for static .pngs!
as with other places on my site i'm trying to get to finish implementing this, the condition will default to no animation, including on older browsers which don't support picture
. this is my compromise on my love of stupid shitty moving .gifs with the needs of people whose photosensitivity is worse than mine; i've looked into every single javascript .gif replacer library and admittedly hated the implementation of every single one of them. all of them are janky and sometimes fail to work, especially in details
elements which i use heavily throughout the site. i still want to protect my visitors though, so hopefully the picture
element and its support for conditional image replacement will be enough for most people.
these did used to be in a list format with a bit of info about each link, which is a format i preferred, but having to think of a way to summarize every single link i wanted to put on my links page was burning me out on adding links — to the point i started avoiding doing it entirely. so as much as i'd love to add a bit more context for each neat thing i'd like to link outside of just a little button, it's unfortunately just not sustainable at all for me. sorry to anyone who would be really helped by a summary of each site.
that said, anything linked on here is something i really liked or otherwise think is worth sharing! i enjoy all of these links, and hope you will as well.
18+ sites
the sites in the 18+ section aren't necessarily focused around adult content (though some of them are!), they're just in the 18+ section if they contain adult content at all.
also, i am generally a lot more likely to link to a site i come across that's responsive, doesn't have any full-screen animated elements or backgrounds, and isn't hostile or rude to the existence of disabled website visitors and / or people using phones. that doesn't necessarily mean all sites linked here fit these descriptors; it just means i have to very strongly like a site, or the site has to seem like it was made by someone very inexperienced with making personal websites, to overlook it not being responsive or being inaccessible to me. (most sites that are inaccessible to me i can fix for myself in browser with the browser's webdev tools; my photosensitivity is at least a mild case so i'm not in any active danger, it just gives me a headache and stomach-turning sense of vertigo. having to modify sites with my webdev browser tools is extremely annoying to do, though, so a site has to really be worth it for me to browse it for long after having to do that!)
the being rude to disabled users and phone users (who are more likely to be disabled and poor than PC users!) i don't really overlook at all, though. i don't expect everyone to have the energy to tackle web accessibility and responsiveness, but i do expect of people that if they can't do this then they should not be nasty or condescending to the website visitors who need those things. a simple neutral statement that your website isn't made for phones goes a long way to avoiding bigoted behavior!
neocities buttons
i love to collect neocities buttons! here's just some i've come across in my internet travels
link disclaimers
as with other link collections on my site, none of these websites are affiliated with me or my own web content in any way unless they specify otherwise on their own. also as with other link collections, i don't take suggestions for things to add here; this is meant to be a curated list of things i personally like and find interesting.
if your content is featured here and you would like it removed, please send me a message on one of the accounts listed on my contact page.
if you have found bigoted content on any site linked here and wish to inform me: i request only a direct link to the offending content. no screenshots or he-said-she-said! these are completely trivial to fake, and rumors never require verification. if the bigoted content is in the form of only a dogwhistle that i don't personally recognize (though i recognize a decent amount of them), i will additionally have to ask for a link to a well-known anti-hate site identifying or describing the dogwhistle. for dogwhistles, i do not accept social media posts as proof of something being a dogwhistle: all social media is basically just an online rumor mill and people can say whatever ridiculous stupid horseshit they want without having to prove anything.
