ah, posting at 4:44. what a cursed time. Japanese people are right; 4 is a bad number.
i do wish when people were talking about feral animals and their lifespan in the wild, that people would make sure to note how this compares to the lifespan of the most closely related wild animal... i mean, i don't know, maybe people know better than i do and think it's best to not do that, but. i feel it would not only highlight that feral animals do worse in the wild than their truly wild cousins, but would do so without giving ammunition to the kind of people who think truly wild animals living in the wild, or just carnivores being carnivores, is "cruel" and they need to do things like exterminate carnivores or constantly feed the wildlife so they don't "starve to death."
and yes, it's true wild animals tend to have much shorter lifespans than individuals of their species in captivity, but that's the way of nature and it would only cause vast amounts of harm for people to presume themselves so arrogant as to "end the suffering of wild animals" or whatever. carnivores and parasites are irreplaceable parts of their ecosystems, and all wild animals need to be allowed to find food for themselves.
