really not fond of going through the social media of someone who posts a lot of things about a topic i really like, only to find a post talking about animal rights... and now i have to play the Fun guessing game of "do they mean animal rights as in just a synonym for animal welfare or some other innocuous, not fucked up meaning? or have i stumbled across yet another lowkey ecofascist, or one of those completely unhinged people who thinks eating meat at all regardless of source, or owning domestic animals whatsoever, should be punishable with death"
i don't like playing this game! it's already exhausting coming across someone new online who seems fun and to have interests similar to mine but since they don't have anything in their profile explicitly mentioning being opposed to bigotry i now have to go through their posts for a while to make sure they're not trying to hide being a virulent transphobe or something. and some of them do a good job of not talking about the fucked up things they think are fine so i still occasionally will follow even other queer people and for a while things are good, then i'm slapped in the face with an extremely vitriolic, transphobic post written by a trans person.

just. sigh. life is already so tiring. this is part of why i've kind of distanced myself from social media entirely, there's already so much going on in my life that i don't really need or want the extra stress layered on top of coming across these people. unfortunately i have to engage with social media at least some if i want to interact with people or their writing and ideas in any sense since the various corporate-owned social media hellholes are where everyone is now, but i still dislike the current state of things and miss the days of forums and actual journaling sites... they weren't perfect by a long shot for sure, but were still vastly better than... whatever this is. /gestures vaguely at the modern internet as a whole
